East Reef Pier

East Reef was one of four winning entries for the international RIBA design competition Landmark East which attracted 234 entries.

The East Reef proposal was awarded feasibility study funding by The East of England Development Agency.

Measuring 260 metres in length, 15 metres high and 5 metres wide, the East Reef Landmark Promenade is designed to be a striking coastline feature. At night the whole structure would be internally illuminated.  By day the promenade would have the appearance of a beautiful stitch between the sea and the sky.

The East Reef proposal includes a dive centre – the first premium quality, custom-built dive and aquarium experience in the UK – and a new esplanade featuring cafes and restaurants and watersports facilities.

The proposal made an appearance at the Think Up ‘Constructionarium’ where a steel scale model of East Reef  (in reality the bridge will be constructed from pre-cast concrete) was built by Imperial College London engineering students.

Agnieszka Glowacka co-lead the development of the project from concept to feasibility study completion whilst Director of Glowacka Rennie.
