St Mary’s University Plaza

A new plaza to transform the University’s presence in Strawberry Hill and create a public space shared by St Mary’s and the local community.

The plaza has been identified as a priority project as part of the masterplan for the University.  The project will see the main entrance and forecourt of the Strawberry Hill campus transformed into a high-quality public open space that offers a radically improved setting for the Grade II listed Main Chapel and the University’s historic buildings.

The project also offers an opportunity to restore elements of Horace Walpole’s original design for the Grade II* Listed Landscape, including the woodland setting for the Grade I listed Chapel in the Woods, located in the south-west corner of the plaza.

The plaza will provide a valuable public open space for the local community and make a statement of quality and intent for future developments as part of the masterplan.
