St Paul’s Onslow Square

A renovation and extension project with a rich marriage between old and new maintaining a clear and complimentary distinction between the Victorian ragstone church and the new 4 storey addition.

While Associate Partner at Foster and Partners, Catherine led this project for the refurbishment of St Paul’s Church, Grade ll Listed, and the addition of a dynamic mixed use building immediately adjacent which is linked by a glass covered slot and communal open stairwell.

While the church itself is not of outstanding quality its frontage, tall spire and position on Onslow Square is significant in urban design terms. This urban prominence was reinforced by the proposed new building which included a new theological training centre, a school of worship, community facilities and bookshop and 3 residential units.

The design developed in conjunction with the English Heritage and the Victorian Society as well as many specialist consultants to include historians, organ and bell tower experts, specialist underpinning designers, arboriculturists, and acousticians.
