Christian is an architect and consulting director with a passion for the variety, originality and design simplicity within all projects he undertakes. He has gained a broad experience over many years at a wide variety of scales having worked at a senior level at leading London practices as well as founding and co-directing a successful practice in Surrey for a number of years. Christian’s project experience includes major education, residential, commercial and infrastructure projects, research into modular building systems and future technologies as well as smaller scale community projects and individual houses.
In supporting the growth of Useful Studio as a leading practice in sustainable and socially minded design, Christian particularly enjoys the close collaboration of the Useful Simple Trust’s family of companies. This allows him to draw on the shared ethos of useful, ethical and intelligent design to realise a cross discipline approach to all the projects he delivers.
Joining Useful Studio in late 2019 was a natural progression for Christian having previously working with the Trust’s sister companies Expedition (Engineering) and Thomas Matthews (Communications) on a number of multi-award winning projects.
Prior to joining Useful Studio Christian founded and directed CF.Architects (2013-2019) and worked at Wilkinson Eyre (2005–2012) Cartwright Pickard (2001-2005) Pringle Richards Sharratt (1998-2001) and Grimshaw (1996)
