While at Foster and Partners Catherine’s primary role was to lead the affordable housing aspect of the development with the Peabody Trust as well as a 5 storey office building on the Hester Road. This work was done in parallel with the delivery of multiple packages on the main building which is comprised of 183 apartments and 12 penthouses.
Albion Riverside was designed to promote a lively urban quarter where people can live, work and enjoy life in the heart of the city. The scheme comprises four separate buildings linked by new public spaces and routes. Shops, business spaces, cafés and leisure facilities are grouped at ground level, with parking below and apartments, including low-cost housing, above.
While the primary building takes on a soft sculptural form both the low income housing and the office building are orthogonal in character following a rigid and ordered grid. By adopting regular and repetitive forms as the base concept and then mirroring and rotating the patterns and layouts an inherent efficiency has been realised in a playful and dynamic form.
