Working in collaboration with Useful Projects, Expedition Engineering and Borgos Pieper we are developing a masterplan on a 12-ha site for this new phased development of 630 residential units. Our role has been to support the masterplan development, reviewing building use, distribution, massing and densities in conjunction with a site-wide sustainable energy strategy aiming to minimise carbon emissions in the most cost effective way and meeting zero carbon requirements for the later phases of the development.
While Expedition developed a sustainable drainage strategy, we worked alongside the engineering team to integrate attenuation ponds within the landscape and amenity proposals, and enhance biodiversity. we have also developed proposals for re-opening part of the culverted watercourse into an open channel, to reconfigure water issues into positive amenities.
The public realm and streetscape have been structured to prioritise the pedestrian, the communal gathering areas and the landscape, to include formal pocket parks, play spaces, natural planting and allotment planting. By controlling parking location and distribution we have achieved a strong balance of easy access for those requiring it, safe and natural surveillance of the road network and a high proportion of landscaped communal areas and pavements.
