• Dorking RFC Rehabilitation & Fitness Centre

Extension and partial conversion of the pavilion at Dorking Rugby Football Club.

Our scheme for the Dorking Rugby Club has been transformational enabling the teams to thrive, members to increase and a significant uptake in use by the wider community for parallel functions. The club, whose alumni includes internationals in both the male and female game, had an ambition to deliver an innovative inclusive fitness and recovery centre, incorporating workout, physio, education, storage, and breakout spaces.

Sited on the National Trust’s Brockham Big Field, with views across to Box Hill, the project also includes a new welcoming entrance, improved wheelchair accessibility throughout and the introduction of a large viewing terrace at first floor level. The extension takes the form of an understated low-lying masonry structure punctuated by tall windows with integrated security shutters. The Sport England-standard facility will be naturally ventilated.

The planning application was approved in 2018 having been successful in designing a scheme which is complimentary and compliant with some important constraints to include the designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and as Metropolitan Open Land (MOL).
