• Foundry, sustainable fit-out and SKA Assessment

Supporting recycling and reuse for an x+why workspace.

The Foundry in Birmingham is a striking fit out refurbishment scheme to add to the thriving workplace portfolio of x+why. We worked closely with a team led by JRA Architects and delivered by Intex Projects. As SKA Assessors we joined the team in the early design phase with a goal to achieve SKA Gold, the highest score in the RICS Sustainable Certification scheme for commercial fit out.

Building on our experience of designing and assessing other SKA Gold fit outs we provided support to the team with ideas and insight. The commitment for an exemplar sustainable project was shared by everyone leading to a beautiful, healthy, and responsible place. Salvaged materials were used to create the planting and seating in the main atrium while much of the existing fit out was reused, either in situ or through careful removal and reinstatement. Second hand furniture was sourced and refurbished with new warranties. These decisions save materials and carbon while adding to the creative atmosphere.
