Supporting students with healthy places

Creating healthy and inclusive places for students is a key factor in ensuring a productive and welcoming learning environment. We have been working with the Heston School over the years, providing a new library extension and sixth form refurbishment. This project looks specifically at the health of the students and the need to provide safe and high quality places for welfare that benefit from easy management and low maintenance.

The new pavilion sits as an extension to the existing school gym. We have adopted principles of lean and circular design proposing a naturally ventilated building that benefits from solar pv's on the roof providing electricity. The materials are robust and long lasting including clay bricks, slate tiles and avoiding high maintenance internal finishes such as drylining and painted mdf. The pitched roof and exposed internal soffit with opening rooflights create a fresh and airy space. New planting and landscaping to the entrance soften the street corner and give a sense of enclosure and privacy on arrival.
