• Isleworth & Syon School Expansion

A new standalone building to accommodate growing pupil numbers, providing a healthy learning environment with excellent daylight and natural materials.

Situated within a Conservation Area, the building is designed around a simple yet elegant plan, with two rows of classrooms along a central corridor, offset to optimise views through and out while completing the urban form of the school’s forecourt.

A rich yet pared-back material language is deployed throughout, offering robust yet cost-effective solutions that do not require excessive maintenance. Solar shading has been utilised to prevent overheating in the summer months, while heat recovery systems reduce the operational carbon in winter. A closed conditioning system is necessary to protect the classrooms from Heathrow-bound airplanes overhead, the building is located within the highest noise contour.

A new bridge link and external stair connect the new building to the existing estate and the social and games areas at ground level. Planting and seating along the western façade are accessible from dedicated classroom doors, providing outdoor teaching space. The scheme achieved a Very Good BREEAM rating.
